There is a need for a less-intensive combat than the A-10. For quick counter-insurgency, anti-drug, or water security.

But, but it must be a relatively rugged platform.

Which is why a modern version of the OV-10 Bronco would have been a better asset. Extreme STOL, high payload, high speed, multi-mission capable, and twin engine.

Oh, well. We'll see how this works out.
