Is the South today a captive nation? Most Southerners would never consider the question—most likely because they would deem the issue to be absurd. But is it inane to ask such a question—is it forbidden in politically correct America to ask such a “confrontational” question? Conservatives would immediately dismiss such rhetorical questions as being unpatriotic or even treasonous—after all, everyone knows we live in “one nation, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.” Liberals, on the other hand, would immediately dismiss the question by repeating two words—slavery, racist, slavery, racist, etc., etc., etc. Despite the soft-censorship efforts of both left and right to limit free discussion, the question will be asked !

    I do not agree that the South is a captive nation. I was born in Philadelphia and come from a line that arrived here in 1752. Every one of my ancestors up to and including myself served our nation proudly. Our Fellow Americans from The Old South did the very American thing of breaking away from a government they felt they could no longer tolerate. They fought bravely for their beliefs however they lost. But all during that time and even today they are our American Brothers. Since the Civil War millions of Southern Patriots took arms to defend the nation they once fought against but now are a Patriotic part of. I fought with many Southerners in Vietnam and they were all as American as I. The people today who want to tear down Southern statues and ban historic Southern flags don't hat e the South, they hate America and are using the South as a stepping stone to erase our Great Nation. Today it's a statue of Lee, tomorrow a statue of Washington. Just like "tolerance" of gays metastasized into gay marriage, they left is destroying America's history in order to control her future. No, the South is not an occupied country it is a needed and honored part of America and American history we cannot allow the leftist connies to erase. Just my opinion.
