Rumsfeld was solid. A straight talking brilliant strategist. He had to take a mid 20th century military, decimated and raped for 8 years by a shortsighted horndog (Clinton), and transform it into a lean, agile state of the art 21st centrury military overnight. That being said, from the beginning we never had enough troops on the ground and still don't. The only way you can win a war is to go in with overwhelming force and violently impose your will. If the enemy will not submit there is only one option. They must be totally destroyed. I don't know if Rumsfeld was the problem, but he was the face of it. See ya Rummy.
