That is "Gabby" Gabreski The highest scoring USAAF ace in the WW2 ETO with 35 kills. He went on to be the top gun in the F-86 in Mig Ally (I think his tally was above 7 or 8) as well as the all time top USAF ace.. That hole in his prop, is from a 20MM APHE shell fired from a Fock Wolf FW190 in 1944. He actually flew his last P47 into the ground while shooting up a train in 1945, and ended WW2 in a POW compound. Or his tally might have been mush higher. He wasn't allowed to fly in Vietnam on LBJ's direct order. No one knows why.--Ray
